John James, Age 20
Private, 85073, 13th Battalion, King's (Liverpool) Regiment.
John's home address was 14, The Terrace, Southall Rd, Dawley.
He had previously served with the 17th Lancers (Regt No. 24660) before being transferred to the Kings Liverpool Regiment. It was whilst serving with the Kings that he was killed in action on the 29 March 1918, his body never being recovered he became another name on a memorial to the missing.
John’s name appears on the Arras Memorial to the Missing Bay 3

John’s father was Mr. William James, and in the 1901 census the family were living in Church Street,
Madeley, John’s father died in the first quarter of 1908, and by the 1911 census his mother had moved
to 8, Southall Road, Dawley, her name was Fanny but, in this census, she used the name Frances James,
john’s older brother was James W James aged 15 and worked as a brickyard labourer, John was 13 and still at school,
and Ivon James 7, there was also a boarder living there by the name of James Gough aged 33, I think
this is the Gough that Fanny later marred because John’s army pension was paid to his mother Fanny
Gough now living at 14, Southall Road, Dawley.
